New information has emerged regarding the business activities of Sabiniano Gómez, father-in-law of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The focus is on his link to a publicly owned property managed by Muface, the Spanish public sector mutual insurance entity.
The building in question, located on Calle San Bernardo in Madrid, was situated directly above the well-known Sauna Adán, a business that thrived as a nightlife establishment in the 1990s.
Both this establishment and other residential units in the building were rented by the family of Begoña Gómez, the wife of the Prime Minister.
The sauna occupied the lower floors of the building, while the penthouse, also owned by Muface, was allegedly used for rentals. There is uncertainty about whether these rentals were connected to the clientele of the business.
Over time, and following the closure of the sauna shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, the space was repurposed as a tourist hostel under the name “San Bernardo Rooms”. However, it is noteworthy that the rental contract remains under the name of the Prime Minister’s in-laws, at a significantly lower rate than market value.
The penthouse rented by Begoña Gómez’s family in the heart of Madrid was not used solely for tourist accommodation. The 139-square-meter apartment has raised questions due to its unusually low rental price.
The family paid just over €850 per month to the public entity Muface, a rate far below standard market prices for a property in such a prime location. Additionally, the penthouse also served as the registered office of a company engaged in real estate transactions.
The apartment is located directly above the former gay sauna, a space also managed by Muface and operated by the family of the Socialist leader since at least 1989.
According to verified information from THE OBJECTIVE, the rental agreement remained in the names of Sabiniano Gómez and his brother Enrique Francisco, who still occupies one of the apartments, while another remains vacant, and the third has been sublet to a third party.
The property’s affordable rental price is not the only concern. The apartment also functioned as the registered office of a company involved in property acquisition, sales, rentals, and management.
As per its commercial registry listing, the company was founded in Valladolid in 2019 but relocated its headquarters to the San Bernardo penthouse on September 16, 2022. This change was officially recorded on September 22 of the same year.
From that moment until June 2024, the Muface-rented space was used as the company’s official headquarters. It was only then that the company moved to an office center near Atocha, Madrid.
THE OBJECTIVE has also confirmed that the company had no commercial relationship with the Gómez family beyond using one of the three divided sections of the penthouse after the closure of the hostel.
